Linden Lady Chocolates Nut Florentines

January 23rd, 2011 by Terry

Linden Lady Chocolates are a company I’ve not heard of before, and a company with a website that has nothing on it except an image, so it’s hard to get some information on them, but these were bought through House of Frasier. They come in a nice looking clear, plastic box with a ribbon attached, but apart from that there’s unsurprisingly not too much info given.

Within the box are medium sized, thin chocolate discs – dark, milk and white, with an almond, hazelnut, walnut and raisin pressed into each disc. There are four of each disc and so you get a decent amount of chocolate here for your money. I’m sure they would normally look quite pretty but unfortunately they got a bit bashed in transit as you’d expect, and so there were bits of nut and chocolate dust around the box as well as a few nuts that had fallen off their discs and were sitting at the bottom of the box.

Each disc is identical except for the chocolate itself, and I felt that the milk chocolate one was the best. The dark chocolate was just a little too bitter and plain and the nuts didn’t add any sweetness, and the white chocolate was a little too sweet. They are very nice though, and they mainly taste of walnuts as you will see from the picture they are far bigger than the other nuts involved. For the right price these are a decent take on the fruit and nut brand and it’s nice to have dark, milk and white chocolate, but you may find these difficult to source.

If you look at the image on the site you can just about make out a phone no. so I called them. The number is correct as the answer machine stated their name, but a very abrupt message.
Does this co. not want to sell chocolate to anyone else?

James – I am on the buying team at a company who stock Linden Lady. They are notoriously elusive and are very “relaxed” about taking orders or even fulfilling orders. I would never deal with them if I had the option. Distinctly average chocolate too.

I’m really rather surprised to read the comments above as I’ve never had any trouble dealing with them, they always supply me with chocolate quite promptly and I’ve never had any complaints about the quality of the chocolate from my customers.

Thought I would just say that I have known of this company for years and have bought their chocolates and always found them excellent. I have recently bought quite a large amount for a special event and had them all delivered in time, perfect presentation and excellent service – what more can I say.

I had some of their ice cream at a craft fair last week, and it was absolutely heavenly. I am very disappointed that it doesn’t look like I will be able to buy any for my freezer.

Sounds like all postings here so far are from retailers/distributors. However just in case it helps any future prospective customer I shall give my opinion as an enthusiastic but highly selective and hopefully pretty discerning consumer of high quality chocolate. I was given a small bag of “Handmade Truffles & Hollow Stars”. Much appreciated as a very pretty and thoughtful gesture. They came simply but attractively cellophane-wrapped with a chiffon bow and presentation card, which was perfectly adequate and attractive for gift purposes. The chocolates within were obviously nicely hand-finished, and again most attractive and appetising. Unfortunately that’s where the compliments end, as without exception the quality was quite attrocious. The chocolate itself in all 3 colours was waxy, flavourless and very cheap. The truffle fillings were dense, again waxy, and lacking in any discernable flavourings. All in all they were extremely disappointing. I have no idea of the retail prices of this brand so they may still represent good value if they are in fact inexpensive and destined to be consumed by the undescerning “chocoholic”. In summary these “chocolates” are hardly worthy of the name, since the cocoa solids and cocoa butter content is very low indeed, with a definite high vegetable fat ratio. I am surprised to read here that House of Fraser stock these. The flavour, texture and general quality is remeniscent of many similar “unknown brand” disappointments obtained cheaply from market stalls and minor “corner shop” retail outlets. This brand would appear to be aiming very much at the low end of the gift market, with the emphasis very much on presentation as a lure, in the knowledge that the purchaser is highly unlikely to be the end consumer. Definitely to be avoided by anyone with taste buds or experience in the field.

I have being buying chocolates from these guys for years and love them especially the truffles! They were great this year to give to my mum for mothers day. Both my mum and my dad (who mainly ate them all!) loved them.

I buy chocolates from this company once a year when they are at Stitch at Olympia in March. The male who is always at the stall is friendly and helpful which is good as I have a nut allergy and my friend is Coeliac. The chocolates are absolutely delicious and we usually end up having to go back before we leave to get some more as they tend to get eaten as we go round Olympia. I cant wait for their website to be up and running

I used to work for this company and I always found them to be very professional and hard working. Their chocolates are excellent and their praline is to die for. They are available to buy in waitrose which is where i now have to get my fix.

I bought lots of these chocolates at the Festival of Quilts NEC Birmingham on Sunday. Have been enjoying the chocolates very much since. When chatting with the man running the stall he said the web site is having to be rebuilt having been hacked from Africa and loosing a lot of money. He was hoping that they could have it up soon. I do hope it is as I want more!

Just bought some chocolates & fudge from a stall at RHS Wisley. Not eaten the fudge yet, but the chocolate was gorgeous & the man that served me was very pleasant.

I have heard of this company before, but have never personally tried their products.

I work in an independent chocolate shop that stocks hand made Belgian chocolates. We are famous for our chocolates containing fresh cream.

We also do the florentine style chocolates which are delicious. We also pride ourselves on our service and over the last 25 years have built up an impeccable customer rapport.

Look us up if you are just interested or would like to try our unique chocolates.

Agree totally with Simon Eames (above), on every one of his comments.
Sorry Linden Lady, but your stuff is overpriced and under-quality. :-(

On the back of the packet I just got, it says “Gluten free” in capital letters. But in the ingredients list, it clearly lists gluten products!
