This rather large 400g box of continental chocolates from Thorntons is of the milk variety. There are four in the collection, with of course white, dark and then a mixture.

With 14 unique flavours here, there’s a lot of choice. There are two of each flavour and then a couple more just to make up the weight (30 chocolates in total). They also proudly proclaim on the back of the box that these chocolates are made primarily with Forastero and Trinitario cocoa beans as well as 100% cocoa butter. Good quality stuff then, though the keyword is “primarily”, and not “completely”.

So getting onto the chocolates. 14 of them is a lot, so there’s no doubt some highlights and probably a few duds. The Hazelnut Slice is extremely pretty, it really does look like it’s been sliced from a Hazelnut Loaf, the taste is a little strange but it looks great. The Caramel Truffle is also delicious, with a truffle filling and caramel centre within milk chocolate, it has a very strong caramel taste which is rich, chocolatey and truffley. The Café au Lait is a miniature coffee in a cup, much like the cups from the Dessert Gallery. It has a real kick to it, and though there’s no mention of alcohol, I could have sworn there was some there.

The best of the lot though is the Chocolate Riche. A smooth truffle within milk chocolate, the taste is incredibly and creamy and caramelly, and it’s absolutely amazing. I was very glad there were three of them in my box, I couldn’t get enough of them. Most of the chocolates are nutty and/or truffley, but if that’s your bag, then this is your box.
