Here we have a lovely looking Winter chocolate collection from Thorntons. This box is a selection of truffles and mousses from Continental Europe, inspired by traditional recipes around Europe. The box has eight flavours, let’s dig in.

Inside the giant box are 30 of the chocolates, so we have at least three of each kind and four of a few as well. Gingerbread Truffle was very interesting, inspired by star-shaped biscuits, it was made with fresh cream, chocolate and crystallised ginger and covered in milk chocolate. The ginger is extremely strong and whilst I’m not the biggest fan of it, I’m sure some people would love it. The Mont Blanc is a mountain styled chocolate shell filled with double cream, rum and chestnut, and it was exactly as I expected – boozy, nutty and creamy. Delicious.

The Sacher-Torte is a rich chocolate truffle with apricot, and was very fruity and chocolatey. The Panettone is extremely lemonny, fresh, creamy and sweet. Another absolutely delicious flavour. The Mulled Wine is a chocolate cup with some very powerful red wine, orange puree and nutmeg and then topped with demerara sugar. Very warming, very nice.

The Apple and Cinnamon Charlotte has a lot going on, with white chocolate, fresh apple mousse, biscuit and cinnamon surrounding apricot flavour jam. Shame I didn’t have one in the box. I swear, I could not find one of these, the Panettone and this look very similar and every white chocolate was a Panettone. Very disappointing. The Stollen was fruity, nutty and truffley. With raisins, cherries, cinnamon and milk chocolate, and then sprinkled with icing sugar and roasted flaked almonds, it’s a bit busy but everything comes though and I really enjoyed it. Finally the Eggnog is double cream whipped with eggs and brandy and finished with a sprinkle of nutmeg. Another delicious treat.

Overall, I cannot fault this selection at all except for the lack of Apple and Cinnamon Charlottes. Everything I did have was really nice, and I definitely recommend this as a nice chocolate gift, it’ll go down great.

Leigh – It must be some sort of conspiracy against us!
