Gordon Ramsay’s Just Desserts
Everyone’s favourite broken English speaking chef, broken in as much as he can’t seem to speak a sentence without slipping a few swear words in each one. Lots of chefs have their names slapped on random products, such as Lloyd Grossman’s pasta sauces, and so ol’ Gordon went for something different, a box of chocolates.
This 205g box has one tray which has 16 chocolates, two of each flavour. The selection here was inspired by recipes in his book of the same name, and are made by Ashbury Confectionery in Corby, Northamptonshire. I feel a need to mention that because I went to University there. Anyway, the flavours are – nut cluster, pistachio truffle, salted honeycomb fudge, cappuccino brulée, marc de champagne truffle, lime parfair, Ecuadorian chocolate truffle and strawberry bombe.
The Ecuadorian chocolate truffle is decorated with an edible 22 carat gold leaf, wow! The taste is quite nice too. The cappuccino brulée is incredibly dark, too dark for my liking. The nut cluster and pistachio truffle were both quite nice, nutty and milky, I enjoyed them both. The Marc de Champagne truffle was very boozy, and with the icing sugar coating was quite interesting. The two fruity offerings were quite poor, lacking the tangy taste that I love with fruit-chocolate combinations. The lime parfait in particular was poor, but the honeycomb fudge was excellent. Despite being dark chocolate, the fudge was soft and salty and the honeycomb gave its unique taste and also offered a crunchy texture, easily the best of a particularly average bunch.
And that’s my overall impression really. For a supermarket selection box it’s not bad, but I’d rather pay a bit extra and get something really nice, if I was Gordon I’d be disappointed that my face was on this box.

He was probably more interested in his name being on the top line of the big fat cheque they paid him for his Celebrity Endorsement, than his face being on the box. I’m sure there were enough noughts in the Amount box to console his disappointment!

I didn’t like them. Neither did my wife. Very sweet. Low quality chocolate. Bland and boring.

Hmm, might give these a miss, from the sounds of it.
You might want to try the salt caramels from Artisan du Chocolat which were created specially for Gordon Ramsay, for him to serve at his restaurant in London. Probably a more authentic link to the famous chef.
