FYI Lovely Organic Milk Chocolate Bar

November 12th, 2008 by Terry

FYI - Not for your information, but feeding your imagination. This is organic milk chocolate with peppermint and cardamon. These bars usually fetch £3.99 each and so when I got one for £1, I figured I may as well. The blurb puts me off a little bit though:

FYI is a spiritual & healthy balance of Yin & Yang, using nature’s elements of thought, passion, enthusiasm and emotions.

The hell? I thought I was eating chocolate here, not consuming some sort of deity. Maybe I’ll be granted some mystical powers after having this, it’d explain why the bars are so damn expensive. They also say the bars are “hand made with love in England”, now maybe I’m cynical but I really doubt it’s about love.

The box does look really nice though, it’s cardboard and it has a little opening on the side where there’s a ribbon tied on. The box is black and green, suiting the ingredients. Despite sounding like a moody git I am impressed so far. The ribbon is a bit fiddly but comes open eventually, and so the box folds open…

It opens up almost like the cover of a book. Inside it lists 5 other flavours in the FYI range. They’re all fruity and full of spices and exotic flavours, I’d be very tempted if I could afford to splash out £20 on them, how about some samples? Under that little flap is a clear plastic wrapper with the bar inside.

The plastic wrapper is a little meh. I’d prefer a foil wrapper but hey ho. The bar is plain, solid milk chocolate. There are no bits of mint or anything, it’s been blended into the bar. The mint is extremely tame and so it should be, there’s no need for strong flavours here. Everything is very smooth, creamy and downright delicious. Cardamon is said to have a strong, unique taste but I’m not entirely sure where or what it was in this bar, as it just tasted minty and chocolatey to me.

Overall I really enjoyed this bar. I came in cynical, but the box impressed me and the bar really impressed me. Delicate in flavour but powerful in terms of deliciousness. Worth £4? I’m not entirely sure about that, but definitely worth a try.
