Casali Rum Kokos

November 7th, 2008 by Terry

300g of original rum-kokos here from Casali of Austria. These are rum-coconut dragees with a milk chocolate coating (58%) and alcoholic filling (5%).

Basically they’re small round milk chocolate balls with a crispy, coconut filling and a little bit of rum inside, kinda like a chocolate liquor. These were sent to me along with a whole bunch of other stuff from Austria from Dietmar who runs http://austrianshop.com and runs his own chocolate review site here.

The tub here houses 300g of them, and the lid sort of peels off but can be placed back on easily enough. One thing I didn’t know was that the rum inside would be in liquid form, so I bit my first one in half, only to have rum spill down my hand and shirt, which made me smell like an alcoholic.

I then decided to eat them by placing the entire things into my mouth and biting into them, this causes the rum to spill out right onto your tongue. Now I’m not much of a drinker and for me this was a relatively painful process. The rum is quite strong and having it hit my tongue wasn’t particularly pleasant. The coconut isn’t strong enough either, I could hardly taste it in most cases, mainly because the rum was so strong. The chocolate itself wasn’t particularly bad or great, and that’s really about it for these. Rummies can rejoice, but if you don’t like alcohol then you won’t enjoy these.

Jim - Plenty of reviews coming up there, most of their stuff seems to be marzipan based. Germany and Austria seem to be big on it.

    Hello!

Sad that you did not enjoy Casali Rum Kokos. Those chocolates are one of the most traditional and popular candy creations in Austria.
I hope you enjoy the other stuff! :-)
