Divine Dubble Bar

October 23rd, 2008 by Terry

All of a sudden I felt it…a wave of guilt washed over me. I was looking at Dubble’s website when I read the following:

“Being a cocoa farmer isn’t as sweet as it sounds. There is no chocolate without cocoa, and although millions of chocolate bars are sold every day, cocoa farmers are some of the poorest people in the world and on average earn less than 50p per day.”

‘My god’, I thought, ‘I have to do something about this.’ And so I bought a milk chocolate Dubble bar. Made by Divine, this is “smooth milk chocolate crispy crunch”, it seems to me like they’re missing a word out there (with crispy crunch? and crispy crunch?) but it’s no big deal. This Fairtrade bar in co-operation with Comic Relief will do wonders for those lovely Ghanian farmers.

The foil wrapper isn’t fantastic for the environment but we can’t do everything all at once, can we? The packaging is loud and proud, I like it. The bar inside is in two big chunks, each with ‘BB’ etched into the chocolate. The front is nice and smooth but the backside of it is chock full of crispy crunch.

I bite into it. The crispy crunch EXPLODES in my mouth! A taste sensation! Well not really, though it is quite nice. It reminds me of Nestlé’s Crunch bar only without being made by CORPORATE FAT CATS. The chocolate has a slightly unique flavour to it though I get the feeling that the crispy crunch is playing a big role there.

Overall this is quite a pleasant bar. If you’re in the mood for a Crunch bar then you might want to see if the shop stocks these as well, it’s better for those lovely Ghanian farmers and Divine are a nice bunch of guys who send me things, and Nestlé don’t. Choose wise, choose Divine.
