Milka Raisins and Hazelnuts Bar
Ok, NOW it’s finally my last Milka bar for awhile. Promise. I’ve saved the best (cough) until last, with this milk chocolate bar with raisins and hazelnuts chucked in. This is, like the regular milk chocolate bar, a paper and foil wrapped bar. How lovely and traditional.
The picture on the front looks pretty nice, the raisins are wet and juicy looking and the hazelnuts look…hazelnutty, though we all know the raisins will be tasteless and the hazelnuts will be…hazelnutty. So I’m doubting there’ll be many surprises here. Come on Milka, prove me wrong!
With a surprisingly short shelf life (this ran out about 2 months after I bought it, the others would have lasted around 6 months longer at least) I’m a little surprised, maybe these aren’t popular at all? Maybe Woolworths was given some old stock? Who knows. The bar has 19% raisins and 5% hazelnuts, so an even distribution then, fantastic.
Now my guess would have been as good as yours as to what type of bar they used, but they went with the small chunk version. I split off the last row to try and show what the inside looked like but it didn’t come out how I would have liked. Anyway, unsurprisingly the bar’s underside is nut and raisin riddled, while the overside is the usual Milka emblazened slab. Some of the pieces break off unevenly because of the raisins but for the most part the bar is pretty good going.
Due to the 19% raisins and 5% hazelnuts, there is of course a slight inbalance in taste. Some parts taste like regular milk chocolate with the odd soft raisins to chew into, and some pieces taste very hazelnutty when you get a chunk or two filled with them. The distribution is fairly decent but not perfect, and that goes for the taste too. I enjoyed this bar a fair bit, because I quite like Milka’s regular chocolate even when it was slightly tasteless I still enjoyed it, but I feel that there are too many raisins and not enough hazelnuts.
It’s a good bar, and I prefer it over Cadbury’s, but I feel it could be better. If you’re a fruit and nut fan you may want to take a look at this, you can do worse. Each 100g bar has 490 calories, 6.3g Protein, 57.5g Carbohydrates and 25.5g Fat.
