Milka Joghurt

August 20th, 2008 by Terry

I previously reviewed a yoghurt Ritter Sport bar and loved it, the yoghurt had a tangy, sour taste to it that combined wonderfully with the milk chocolate, and as soon as I saw that Milka had released a similar bar in Germany, I decided that the bar and I were gonna get it on like Donkey Kong.

First impressions are good. The art on the bar is pretty, there’s a nice dollop of yoghurt next to a couple of pieces of chocolate, where you can see the yoghurt filling, and it looks like there’s a lot of it. Of course everything is in German and despite studying it for 5 years, a combination of never being very good at it and not speaking it for 4 years afterward has left my knowledge of it limited to random words and phrases such as “das ist gut!” and “ich spiele fussball”, so I’m not even gonna attempt to translate this stuff.

Opening the bar up and it looks fairly similar to the “die…” range of Milka bars, only without the bloomed chocolate look. The chocolate smells milky with just a slight hint of yoghurt. Breaking some pieces off and you’ll see that it looks exactly like it did on the wrapper. The milk chocolate coating is thin and the yoghurt filling is thick. Pop a piece in and it’s instantly exactly how I described at the beginning of this review.

Tangy, yet creamy. Sour and chocolatey. The yoghurt has such a strange taste to it, like no yoghurt I’ve had here, yet it combines so well with the chocolate. It seems like it should taste bad, my taste buds are confused and want to say that the combination is scary and not worth having again but in the end it’s a damn fine bar that I would definitely have again. I doubt this is for everyone, it is a slightly weird bar but personally I find the combination delicious and I think it’s worth trying at least once just to see how it works.

I wonder HOW Donkey Kong gets it on. Vehemently, I imagine.
On the topic of yogurt - out of curiosity, how does everyone here pronounce it? Yo-gurt or yoh-gurt. I say yoh-gurt which seems to make people mad.

Allie - I pronounce it yo-gurt, using the yoh makes me sound a little bit too posh, somewhat similar to sc-oh-ne rather than sc-on.

hey, this review as great thanks, I’m in Germany at the mo and trying to find some chocolate to send back to my family - but I’m not sure what’s available in the UK and what isn’t! but this review indicates that milka yoghurt is only available in Deutschland so I’ll take your word for it. thanks!

and I would say that yo-gurt sounds “posher” than yoh-gurt. my nan says “yo-gart” but then she also says sospn instead of saucepan!

Steph - The only way it’s available in England is ordering online like I did, never seen this one here despite there now being some Milka bars about.
