Milka Zartherb

August 19th, 2008 by Terry

Today we return to Germany, with our Zartherb flavoured Milka bar. Zartherb basically means bittersweet, so we have…a bittersweet Milka bar.

So as we ascertained before, Milka are a Swiss company, but they make a lot of bars in Germany, and I have about 6 or 7 to review that I got recently. On the front of the bar it says “dunkle Alpenmilch Schokolade” which means dark Alpine milk chocolate, hence the dark and milk combine for a bittersweet taste. Or at least that’s what I think it means.

The bar looks fairly decent, like a regular Milka bar. Open it up and again fairly plain, just a nice looking block of chocolate with lots of Milka etched squares. The chocolate looks fairly dark but smells quite sweet, which is pretty much perfect.

And that’s how it tastes too. It has the flavour of dark chocolate with none of the bitterness. It has a sweet taste to it and it’s a really nice combo of flavours. The two flavours compliment each other brilliantly, with neither particularly stealing the show. Funnily enough the bar has hazelnuts blended in too, though I couldn’t taste them at all. If you’re tempted by dark chocolate but the bitterness puts you off, this is probably perfect for you, as it has the sweetness of milk chocolate with the taste of dark chocolate, and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Is it in any way like the Green&Blacks milk chocolate which is quite strong but nice and sweet too?

I’d love to try this. I’m trying to get into dark chocolate, but in a cautious manner.Just need to get over my principles for ordering over the internet.I’m not actually sure what those principles are, just that the whole affair makes me feel a bit weird.
Can’t wait for your other milka reviews!

Allie - Without having had that bar since I reviewed it a long time ago, I’ll go with a cautious but optimistic yes.

Lottie - You can’t go wrong with this, definitely a sorta beginner’s bar, don’t go getting your 80% Ghanian dark chocolate bars just yet. Anywho, internet orders are fine, nothing quite like a cardboard box full of chocolate turning up in the morning!

“nothing quite like a cardboard box full of chocolate turning up in the morning!”

Especially if its free Terry ;)

This bar looks pretty awesome. I quite like dark chocolate myself so its maybe not quite one for me! It definately sounds like a grand option for a dark chocolate begginer though!
