Hotel Chocolat Amour

August 15th, 2008 by Terry

Dappled white chocolate filled with puffed rice textured praline. Shaped like hearts and in the same packaging as yesterday’s Strawberries & Cream, this is Amour.

So these look interesting, initially I was thinking “where’s the white chocolate”, but actually the top is white chocolate with a dusted brown effect mixed into it, and the bottom of these is a very dark looking chocolate. They look quite big and that’s about all I can say about their appearance for the time being.

So that’s a little unexpected! Let’s break this down then, on top we have white chocolate with an extremely thin layer of milk chocolate over it, the bottom of the heart is dark chocolate, and inside is the praline with puffed rice textured into it. There isn’t a huge amount of the puffed rice and to be honest it does nothing for me. The dark chocolate is surprisingly powerful and it actually gives the whole thing a slightly bitter taste, usually because when you eat these you’d place the bottom bit on your tongue (i.e. the dark chocolate) and hence it’s the first thing your taste buds get (that’s my theory anyway).

The praline tastes a little orangey as well as hazelnutty, which it shouldn’t, as there’s no orange at all. This only happened in a few of mine though, others were very nutty and some were more bitter than others. There seems to be no standard taste to these, and overall they were fairly nice but not outstanding. I didn’t mind them being packaged in with the rest of my stuff but I wouldn’t buy them again on their own.
