Cadbury’s Milk Tray is a “luxurious selection of milk tray chocolates”, basically a selection box of fairly ordinary chocolates aimed at certain holidays such as Mother’s Day and the like. The box I had was a 454g box, and so I didn’t just have one tray, I had two.

There are twelve chocolates here, none of which are particularly exciting, and are all fairly traditional. We have Mocha Mystery, an extremely unimpressive coffee milk chocolate with absolutely no coffee taste whatsoever. Honey Love, milk chocolate with extremely strong honey flavoured caramel which took me back a bit. Orange Truffle, an absolute yawnfest of a chocolate with terribly artificial taste. Hazelnut Caress which has the Milk Tray logo on, suggesting this is the signature chocolate, and it’s certainly the best so far, with the hazelnut and the soft caramel mixing well.

Fudge Dream is a very tough, tasteless fudge in milk chocolate, completely devoid of flavour. Hazelnut Heaven is our second and sadly not our last nut offering, just a simple hazelnut in milk chocolate here, very meh. Soft Whisper is hazelnut praline in milk chocolate, the praline never really kicked in at all, again the milk chocolate is far too overpowering. The Strawberry Kiss is a strawberry filling with vanilla flavour fondant cream, it’s not bad, a fruity and creamy offering, I kinda liked it. Nut Secret is, thank god, our last hazelnut chocolate, another hazelnut in milk chocolate but with some sort of truffle as well which added nothing, rubbish.

Eastern Delight was Turkish delight in milk chocolate, the flavour was pleasant enough, I like Turkish Delight and this one was done fairly well. Caramel Heart was soft caramel in milk chocolate, shaped like a heart, it was ok, the caramel didn’t taste great and there was no need for two caramel milk chocolates here. Sorry, did I say two? I forgot the Caramel Charm, which was chewy caramel instead of runny caramel, again it was ok, for once there was some actual flavour.

Overall, this box is devoid of flavour and thought. With four hazelnut chocolates and three caramel chocolates, it seems poorly planned and when called into question and critiqued professionally (cough) it’s just so, so poor. Seriously, stay away from this, if you’re going to buy some chocolates for someone you care about, this is a slap in the face to them, spend a little bit extra and get them something really good. If you’re reading this Cadbury, I have a message for you: Wake up.
