Hershey’s 5th Avenue
Now here’s a bar that sounded so, so good to me while I was hungry. “Crunchy peanut butter in a rich, chocolatey coating”. Hmm, chocolatey? I get the feeling they’ve worded that one carefully. Also, peanut butter from Hershey’s that isn’t Reese’s branded? How strange.
Back to the “chocolatey”, looking at the ingredients shows that this contains 2% or less of chocolate, that’s just…disgusting. I’ve never had a chocolate bar like this before so while part of me is annoyed by it, part of me is also intrigued to see how this pans out.
The 5th Avenue looks pretty plain, a dark theme with bold, yellow font. Nothing to moan about, nothing to praise. The bar is quite hefty, weighing a beastly 56g. Not too shabby.
So opening it up, I was half expecting something disgusting but it looks ordinary enough. The “chocolate” feels very greasy on the touch, but the entire thing just smells of peanut butter. What took me aback was when I bit it, it sure is crunchy! It reminds me of the Crispy Crunchy Reese’s, exactly like it in fact!
It has the same layered effect that did, it feels like it’s made up of both peanut butter and peanut brittle. The brittle gets all stuck in your teeth which is a huge pain. The “chocolate” is utterly tasteless but it adds sugar to combat the saltiness of the peanuts, but it just leaves grease on my fingers, no chocolate, and it’s so off putting.
Overall, I won’t deny it, this was absolutely delicious. I hate to say it, I want to hate this, but I can’t, I enjoyed every bite of it. The brittle annoyed me to no end, the “chocolate” annoyed me even more, the fact that Hershey’s have a competing bar to one of their own subsidiaries confuses me, but all that aside, this was a delight to eat and I’d love to have one again.
Each bar has 280 calories (130 from fat), 4g Protein, 35g Carbohydrates (27g of which sugars) and 14g Fat (5g of which saturates).

Hershey’s includes a nice history of most of their products on their American website.
5th Avenue was introduced during The Great Depression and used to have almonds on top. Hershey’s deleted the almonds and only recently went to the mockolate product. (I loved the bar when it had real chocolate on it.) The fake chocolate is actually a real chocolate base that has tropical oils added (just like some British chocolate that’s still allowed to be called chocolate).
The difference between it and the Crispy Crunchy is that the Reese’s bar has some crushed peanuts in it (and supposedly real chocolate but it’s only marginally better).
