Nestlé Apple Melty Kit Kat

April 19th, 2008 by Terry

The first of two ‘melty” Kit Kats from Japan, this is Apple flavour. The Kit Kat brand is always undergoing some sort of change in flavour or design, not just in Japan but all over the world, and this is a bit of both really, with apple flavour being uncommon, and the melty theme certainly being new.

As you can see from the box, there’s a nice, dark theme going on here. I’d almost call this the film noir of chocolate, with a very stylish look to it, though that’s perhaps giving Nestlé too much credit.

What we have here though are two individually wrapped, large Kit Kat sticks. Each stick is about the size of two regular Kit Kat sticks, and inside is the ordinary wafer, though somewhat akin to a Kit Kat Chunky, there is a large layer of cream between the top wafer and the surrounding chocolate.

And in this instance, it’s apple flavoured. It’s very rich, fruity and overpowering. It mixes surprisingly well with the chocolate, and I’ll be honest when I say I really liked this, but it certainly wouldn’t be for everyone. I’m not sure how it’s “melty” but I like the word anyway so I’m going to let them use it.

Overall, I think you’d know if you’d like this or not before you ate it, so be aware of that before you buy it. Each stick has 100 calories, 1g Protein, 10.6g Carbohydrates and 5.9g Fat.

P.S. In case you didn’t already know, pictures are now clickable, you’ll see in this post that if you click the pictures you’ll see them at their original resolution, so enjoy.

That Kit Kat Melty looks awesome. I had a look on J-List and Its amazing how many different varieties of Kit Kat they have in Japan…almost to many for my liking.

Good work Terry you seem to be a bit of a Japanese chocolate buff - I enjoy reading about all the weired and wonderful things you have from there.

P.s. You got a special mention over at Chocolate Mission yesterday!

Yeah there are loads, click the Nestlé category and look through my archives there, I’ve reviewed loads of stuff. I am a bit of a self-confessed Japanophile so it comes with the territory.

And yeah I can’t believe you finally got those truffles! Sounds like they were a little bit underwhelming which is a disappointment, I had high hopes for those. :/

A Japanophile haha thats ridiculous ive never heard that expression before.

Well keep up the good work on the Japanese side of things - I havent even looked into getting anything from that side of the world yet - Chocolate Mission remains strictly Westernised for the minute.

James - Wiki it, it’ll do a better job of explaining than me. And thanks, I love Japanese stuff even when it lets me down, and I’ll go back again and again. The prices are very good on J-List too, I really do recommend you check them out sometime.

Ellie - Well I agree, the main selling point of them is the low caloric amount, they have…going off the top of my head here, around 160 calories per bar as opposed to around 200-230 for a Kinder Bueno. Note they’re marketed at women too so that’s really all they’re about.
