Meiji Rich Matcha Chocolate
This seemed like an interesting bar to me. A green tea flavoured chocolate bar, it looked good to me on the internet, until it actually got here anyway…
As I say, this looked interesting on the website, but when it got here I saw how…cheap it looked. It’s all green and shiny, it looks like something from the 70’s (not that I would know). It’s a moot point really, but it doesn’t attract me.
Obviously I can see why they chose it, green goes with the green tea, and in fact…with the colour of the bar. Yeah, it’s all green, lovely eh? I really wanna eat a puke green bar.
The bar turns out to be…ok, at best. It’s quite strong, it’s not very sweet, as it has a very strong green tea flavour, and that means it takes some of the bitterness from it too, which balances out the chocolate.
Overall, like I said, it’s ok. It’s a little bit too strong in flavour for my liking. If you love green tea and are looking for a powerful bar, this is it, you will meet your maker. Each bar has 277 calories, 2.9g Protein, 24.6g Carbohydrates and 18.6g Fat.

That chocolate looks absolutely disgusting. It looks like moss. And since I’m not a fraggle… I don’t dig moss.
Oh. My. God.

I just tried one today. I really like matcha and other strong green teas so it is right up my alley. I don’t think it should be called chocolate though. Just like I don’t think white chocolate should be called chocolate (no cocoa powder). But for my sense of taste, it is exactly what I wanted.
Thanks for putting up the review, I haven’t really been able to find much on the web to show to friends.

An Cailin – XD
Kirsten – Well, they call it “chocolate” on the bar, otherwise I’d agree with you, I don’t know if it’s a bad translation or if it’s just put there to attract people or what, but I just go with what I’m given. I did mention in the review though that lovers of green tea (especially strong ones, as you mentioned) would no doubt enjoy this, personally I don’t, and I didn’t. Hopefully you see my point.

I actually have half of one of those sitting in a box on my desk… As stated in the original post, it’s ok. I like the flavor of green tea, but this bar is a little rich for my tastes, and that’s coming from someone who like matcha ice cream. If you suck on it a bit you can still taste the white chocoalate in it. Atleast, that seems to be what was used as a base.
It’s decent, but I think the next time I buy a matcha bar I’ll find one that doesn’t say RICH on the package.

It really seems this bar is for hardcore matcha addicts (like me). I can’t eat very much at once, but I just love matcha so much that this is perfect for me. I have nothing but positive associations with that shade of green, my enjoyment runs so deep.
