Whittard of Chelsea Lemon Batons

April 8th, 2008 by Terry

I was temped to call these “Chocolate with Green Tea Lemon Batons”, but that seems frankly too long for a title despite that being on the front of the box. These are lemon batons coated in plain chocolate with green tea extract.

So there’s a lot going on here, we have a strong lemon flavour, then a thick amount of plain chocolate and then green tea in there somewhere. Too busy perhaps? Well let’s see.

First things first, these look terrible. Really terrible. The chocolate is cracked, has holes in and is all misformed. I can overlook that though if it tastes good.

And frankly, I’m not sure if they are or not. They’re…weird. The lemon is tangy but without much flavour, the chocolate is ok too, it’s well…plain, and the green tea adds a really weird, and honestly, unwanted effect to the chocolate that’s quite indescribable.

When I first saw these, I thought they had to be good. I love lemon, chocolate and green tea, but as it turns out, I don’t love them together. I don’t recommend these, and Whittard’s are starting to depress me what with their good name and yet frankly quite poor products.

Good Lord, those look like poo. I salute you for actually putting one in your mouth. I suppose someone’s got to do it and live to tell the tale.
