Glico Chocolate Pocky

When you think of Japanese candy, you think of Pocky, it’s really as simple as that. This is the quintessential Japanese confectionary, with characters in anime and J-Dramas eating the stuff en masse, it’s my job to find out why.

The idea of this is simple. The regular breadsticks ala all other Pocky varieties, and covered with milk chocolate. Most likely the most popular because it’s the plain flavour and is available all year round, it is in my opinion, most definitely not the best.

In fact, it’s really average. The chocolate is ok at best, it’s not of a particularly high quality or a great taste, it’s kinda boring but combines well with the tasteless breadsticks.

This is popular because of brand name and advertising. I could list a whole reel of snacks better than this, and a bunch of other Pocky varieties alone that beat this into the ground, it’s plain and inoffensive, but altogether not that great.

I’d stick to other varieties if possible, the Almond and Chocolate Cookie Crush ones are fantastic, most of the Dessert Pocky flavours are great too. This is a decent starting point, but in the grand scheme of things it’s nothing special.
