Cadbury Dairy Milk with Shortcake Biscuit

Cadbury Dairy Milk with Shortcake Biscuit

It’s been a while since I’ve reviewed anything from Cadbury, let alone the Dairy Milk range, and so I was a little surprised when I found this and the Dairy Milk with Crunchie quite randomly in the supermarket. They only seem to be in big bars though, which is perhaps why I could never find them in local corner shops.

I like how it says ‘More to Share’ on the front, more than what exactly? There’s no single serving version of this bar with which you could share in the first place, what are we comparing the sharability of this bar to? What a crock of shit.

Also they list the calories per chunk, seriously…per chunk. I remember this being an issue with the Giant Buttons (also from Cadbury). Who eats just one chunk? You’d have to be the most anal person to do that, goddamn.

Anyway, rant out of the way, this bar is pretty average. The chocolate is the same old stuff, typical Cadbury Dairy Milk fare. The shortcake pieces are quite soft with just a little bit of crunch, and each chunk is filled with the little pieces.

They’re not like bits or anything, these are pretty sizeable chunks of biscuit, whether that’s good or bad is up to you, personally because of the texture of them I thought it was a good thing. There’s not much taste to them though, and they don’t resemble shortcake in anyway from what I can gather.

Overall view of the bar is that it’s a pretty weak edition. There’s not much flavour and the biscuit doesn’t add enough texture or anything really to warrant a re-purchase, I’d stick with just about anything else in the range personally.

Per chunk the bar has 35 calories, 0.5g Protein, 3.7g Carbohydrates (3.2g of which sugars) and 1.8g Fat (1.1g of which saturates).

you see this is another example of the strange way they release the versions of cadbury bars around the UK and Ireland. here we have the ordinary six square version of the biscuit one as well as the big bar in your review, but not the old-fashioned rectangular 8 square that alot of cadbury bars come in too here. the crunchie one only seems to be in the big version here. but both are in most supermarkets and a lot of corner shops and have been for a few years now.

I’m still not sure why it is that Cadbury have a 6 square version and an 8 square version in Ireland, is there really a need for both? As it so happens I decided to google this after and look around for small bars, I saw some pictures and I’m sure they’re available on export British sites, but Cadbury hardly make them easy to find.

strange, they could make more money than from the big bars which people don’t always have someone to ‘share’ with! the small ones are much more convenient. i’m not sure why we have the 8 square version here too but i imagine it’s partly a nostalgia thing. it’s the way they always were before the six square. not all the versions are available in the 8 square though, it’s mostly ordinary milk, mint crisp, golden crisp, turkish delight, whole nut and tiffin.

Exactly, the small bars are more of a grab and go thing, whilst with a big bar like this you have to really sort of…think about it, as you’re not gonna eat the whole thing at once. Ah ok that makes sense, I just can’t see both versions selling that well, almost seems like a waste of money to me, what’s Golden Crisp by the way?

golden crisp is basically like the crunchie bits one. the honeycomb is a slightly different texture though. i’m really surprised about the difference of availability of fairly random bars here compared to britain and vice versa. alot of people choose the 8square ordianry dairymilk and the mint crisp one over the 6 square one, or at least i notice me and my friends do

You can find the six-chunk version in the UK. You can in Birmingham anyway!

  7. ellie

really? that’s weird, none of my friends in england or scotland seems to see them – maybe it’s a brummie thing!! wonder if they have them in wales.

  8. Leigh

You could even buy them in multi-packs at one point. Mmm i dont know, perhaps they were discontinued?

  9. Terry

Molly – Cheers, hmm…any particular reason as to why you do that?

multi-packs of the 8 square? well now i’ve never seen that here! they have a bloody random way of selling their chocolate don’t they?
i know that i pick the 8 square over the 6 if it’s there because i find that the shape of chocolate affects the texture and pleasure of biting into it initially and also i feel like i’m getting more chocolate (which i think i might be slightly).

Now then, i am just tucking into some Cadbursy Golden crisp ( very very delicious!) and i am wondering why they do not sell it in england?! is it some odd marketing scheme!

You could try asking them, as I have absolutely no idea.

maybe people have 1 chunk because they have actual control over what they eat and how much and aren’t fat greedy pigs? calories per chunk has been put for the buyers benefit and convieniencem you dont have to have a go about it.

  14. Terry

    Damn my fat greedy pig-ness.
