Mars Milky Way Midnight Dark

December 10th, 2007 by Terry

A dark chocolate Mars bar, something that for some reason I’ve never seen in Britain, but it seems to be a permanent fixture of Mars’ range in America. Am I about to find out why they haven’t brought it over here, or will it simply ask more questions?

The packaging is pretty cool, there’s a bit of a space theme on it, a darker version of our Milky Way theme. It has ‘rich, dark chocolate’, ‘golden caramel’ and ‘vanilla nougat’, so basically is, as I said, a dark chocolate Mars bar.

The bar is small and fat, and smells strongly of dark chocolate. Mine looked like the result of poor manufacturing with cuts into the chocolate all around it, but it’s nothing to get upset about.

Biting into it showed that the nougat is much whiter than our British variety, which is a slight off-white from what I can remember. The caramel is also a bit less tough, though this hadn’t been in the fridge which could have effected it.

The bar is much less thicker than our Mars bar, personally that didn’t bother me but I can imagine it would bother some. Surprisingly I could actually taste the nougat, which I can never do with the British Mars bar. The dark chocolate had the taste of dark chocolate without the bitterness, though the entire thing was a little too sweet.

Overall this was a pretty pleasant experience. It’s not a great bar, but it’s interesting to see the differences between Britain and America’s versions of the Mars/Milky Way bar. I can see why this hasn’t been brought over, and it’s simply because it isn’t vastly different from the regular Mars bar.

Each bar has 230 calories (80 from fat), 1g Protein, 36g Carbohydrates (30g of which sugars) and 8g Fat (6g of which saturates).

Yeah I noticed that too, you can’t use a superlative in this manner!

My site, my rules! If I want to use bad English then by god I will!

Leigh it’s a comparative not a superlative (says she who was forced to do latin haha) :-P

We used to have these over here – I used to really like them. I remember the nougat in ours being much paler than in the normal mars bars.

This is the old Forever Yours candy bar of the 1950’s with a new name. I’ve always preferrred this one over all the others Mars candy bars. Enjoy, it is a little piece of history.
