Paynes Toffee Poppets

Paynes Toffee Poppets

I’ve decided to skip the orange Poppets, because quite frankly they’re one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever eaten (food in general) and it put me in a bad mood, so didn’t feel like writing about them at all. So, we skip straight to the Toffee Poppets, and thank god, the end of Paynes Poppets now. Maybe in awhile I’ll return to the orange Poppets and give them a thorough seeing to, but not now…not now.

Odd packaging again. A picture of a mini on the front, and the cryptic message on the back reads ‘I’ll never forget my first love; short, dark and handsome, who said size matters…Hmmm!’ Hmmm indeed…

So these are milk chocolates with toffee centres. Sounds plain enough, and that’s how they taste. Really, really plain indeed.

Basically you just have average tasting hard toffee, covered with below-average tasting milk chocolate. I can’t think of any other way to describe these, other than disappointingly plain, and yet funnily enough the best tasting ones of the entire range. I’m not spending anymore time describing these because there’s not much else to say. If you must have something from this range (sadomasochism I would assume) then go with these, at least they’re edible.

Each box has 203 calories, 1.8g Protein, 30.7g Carbohydrates and 8.1g Fat.

“I’ll never forget my first love; short, dark and handsome, who said size matters”

ok now there can be no denying that there is a dirty element to those ‘jokes’!

You must be relieved to know you’re not a complete perv then! ;)

But you’re right, they really gave the game away with this one, I still don’t know what the relation is but…well, I don’t have to worry about it anymore. I’ve moved on.

can i un-”hang my head in shame now”?
i’m not ready to move on from this yet, it’s too bizarre. once on the back of a packet of choc buttons, the joke was “what did he do to all the buttons? Adum”. we sat on the bus in confused silence for the rest of the journey repeating the word ‘adum’ every so often. a month later, we randomly realised that it meant “ate them” and was supposed to sounds like he was called Adam. ????? but poppets have somehow surpassed this weirdness.

Eh…I suppose so, be thankful I’m a nice guy. I like how you can’t move on, maybe you should email Paynes, I’d hate for you to have sleepless nights over whether they’re being sexual on purpose or not.
And I cannot believe it took you so long to get that one! I read it as “ate them” so got it instantly, maybe it’s the Irish accent that threw you all off, but imagining it…it shouldn’t have. Either way it’s a terrible joke, all candy/crisps jokes are bad.

i think it was just that we probably didn’t think that the joke could possibly be that bad so didn’t even consider it! though still…why would we assume we should connect the sound of adum with adam the name? you have to change a whole vowel and pronounce the first letter differently! cadbury and payne are going to pay for this.
(or perhaps i’ll just move on because i’m bored now)

I got it as ‘had them’? Gah…
The poppets jokes are lame though.

I remember being intrigued by the jokes on the back of penguin wrappers when I was little. They were mint :-)
