Montezuma’s Spice It Up Bar

I was recently (the beginning of this week in fact) sent a package from the people at Montezuma’s, an award winning British chocolate maker. In it I received 4 large bars and 2 of these smaller bars, worth a combined total of over £10 which I thought was pretty awesome, and this was the bar that intrigued me the most, so here we go.
Montezuma’s was founded in 2000 by two ex-lawyers turned chocolate entrepreneurs, and the company is now highly regarded as a high-standard, whilst still small and non-corporate company. Like most small chocolate manufacturers, Montezuma’s use organic chocolate and ingredients from around the world, as well as recycled packaging for their bars. Personally, I’ve taken a look at Montezuma’s website before and chose not to buy anything because I was unsure of whether they charged their high(er) prices because of either good quality chocolate or the organic ingredients they use, as I know some companies use the organic line as a bit of a marketing scam to bump up the price.
The ‘Spice It Up’ bar is a 45g dark chocolate bar with pieces of dragon ginger dumped on the top of each segment. The dark chocolate is a rich 73% cocoa solids, and is 90% of the bar, with the ginger making up the remaining 10%.
Inside the box is a plastic wrapper in order to keep the bar fresh, and opening that shows the bar in all its splender. It’s a very pretty bar, with dark brown chocolate topped with light, crystal-like ginger, and smells very rich.
When I first popped a piece into my mouth and chewed, my initial thoughts were ‘So where’s the ginger?’, I could hardly taste it at all, in fact I’d go so far as to say I couldn’t taste it at all. The taste was all chocolate, which surprisingly wasn’t all that bitter, so I assume the ginger took its effect there.
Even trying to let the chocolate melt didn’t help too much, the dark chocolate vastly overpowers the ginger, and while it would be harsh to criticise what is otherwise a very good tasting bar, I was a little disappointed with the lack of taste with the ginger.
Overall, this is a good bar. There’s hardly any ginger taste but the bar is very solid in both its physical shape and taste, with a good dark chocolate flavour without being too bitter. I would like to think that some of the other bars I have are a little better though.
P.S. I apologise for the poor picture, I forgot to take a picture of the bar, assuming Montezuma’s would have a good one on their website but alas they don’t, I have one other bar that is the same size so when I take a picture of that I’ll mention it so you know the size.

I had problems with this bar too, moreso due to the fact that there is no nutritional value written on the back. Sadly, yes with treats I am one of those women who calorie count and I have no idea with this bar..if you find out let me know though..
