Shigekix Sour Soda Hard Gums

Shigekix

Ho-boy, Shigekix…anyone familiar with these will know what this review will be about, and can be summed up with one word - sour. The Japanese have done sour in a big way here, and that’s really saying something.

There are a ton of different varieties of these, in the past I’ve tried the Cola and Lemon flavours, as well as a mystery one that I had no info on, and could find nothing on the internet about and hence couldn’t do a proper review, but now we have this. A soda flavoured Shigekix.

What are these? Well the cam is still crap, but basically these are like small American hard gums, covered in sour stuff, most likely just citric acid powder, and these ones were a little sticky as well, but they’re not usually.

What do they taste like? Well, some sort of strange fruit flavour, maybe a bit like Ramune soda, but I’m not totally sure, it would make sense though considering it’s the quintessential Japanese soda drink. But the sourness, my gosh I’ve had nothing like this before. Your face winces, your eyes water, these are hardcore.

My tongue started to hurt before I finished the pack, but these are still so good, they make my mouth water like nothing else. And what made me laugh is that sugar isn’t even first on the ingredients list, whilst so many chocolates do have it first.

The pack has 85 calories, now I’m guessing with the rest but I think it’s 3g Protein, 19.9g Carbohydrates and 0g Fat. Suits me just fine! If you’re into sour stuff, you’ll get a real kick out of these, they’re great fun.

they sound absolutely terrifying. alot of japanese food seems a little masochistic. in a good way. do i sound insane?

  2. Terry

No I can see what you mean, it’s hard to describe but these are quite pleasing to the taste buds in a slightly unnatural way. Definitely not insane, you’d probably like these.

i ordered more stuff from J-List (haven’t even got the other stuff yet) but i’m hooked - the food is so weird! i’m intrigued by the sweets in today’s review.

Hooked indeed, they update their stock so regularly as well that everytime I visit they have a new lineup, I recently ordered their new Kit Kats and the Marble Pocky they have as well. You should try these out just for the experience if nothing else, there’s nothing like these in Britain.

(yes i am back at 1.50 in the morning! i have to get some night nurse - not an actual nurse you understand, the medicine).
i think i may have ordered marble pocky. or was it dessert pocky. kinda wish i’d ordered chestnut which i have never tasted in anything. i have had plain milk french pocky - prince (or Lu) does some that my mum picks up in the summer on holiday. i don’t like the biscuit but i do like the choc!
i’ll tell you what i think of the stuff when i get it! i see you had the coffee koala biscuit things - i ordered chocolate flavour and your review was very positive so i’m looking forward to them :D

1.50 isn’t that late, I was still up then but I lead a bit of a strange life…Ah yes I got the Chestnut Pocky and some of the Dessert stuff as well, never had Chestnut before either so it should be interesting if nothing else. The Koala biscuits are indeed very nice, I’ve got reviews of the strawberry and chocolates one to go up actually, if you want I can put them up early so you can see my thoughts on them.

yeah 1.50am isn’t late to me either but everyone else always thinks it is! light weights.
i would love to read your koala review but don’t change around the order just for my benefit if it complicates things - thanks though!

Anyone who thinks 2am is late really needs to spend some time at University or something, I don’t know anyone around here who goes to bed before that time, or at least not usually, once a week or so they do crash early but more often than not sleep is the last thing we wanna do. I’ll put the 2 koala reviews up over the next 2 days then, it complicates nothing so don’t worry, my reviews have no particular order to them. :P

dayum i am going to have to try these… :D

fay - do try them! than we can compare tastebud reactions. that sounds so gross - you get my drift!
