I’m sure that to a lot of people, this bar would be quite delicious. Sadly on me, it’s a little bit wasted.

There’s a lot of writing on the back. Basically they describe this bar as being smooth, intense and full-bodied, with rich, indulgent flavours from noble cocoa beans. Sounds awesome, eh? Well unfortunately it isn’t.

Opening up the cardboard box reveals a foil wrapped slab of dark chocolate, there are 10 individual squares, each with the Cote’dOr elephant branded into the chocolate. The chocolate smells very strong and rich. And that’s the problem.

It’s too strong and rich, far too bitter for my liking. There’s just no sweetness at all, which is what I’m used to. I don’t like the flavour, which is sort of smoky and earthy, and a very strong chocolate taste. I guess years of really only eating white and milk chocolate have meant that it’d take some time to get used to this. I tried letting it melt and just eating it, and I didn’t really like the taste of either.

I think if you like dark chocolate, you’d probably love this. But for me, it’s a little too strong and I’m not accustomed to such a flavour yet. Maybe in a year or so I’d like to try this again and see if I can stand it. I won’t slate it because it’s really my fault and not theirs, but if you’re like me then you probably won’t like this.

Each serving is 3 pieces, and per serving this bar has 180 calories, 2g Protein, 9.3g Carbohydrates (8.1g of which sugars) and 14.5g Fat (9g of which saturates).

i had cote d’or milk chocolate once and it was so horrible i didn’t even finish the bar and that’s saying a lot. could have been something to do with the fact that i got it in a pound shop. but it wasn’t out of date, just gross.

I’ve got one or two milk chocolate Cote d’Or bars to review myself actually, so thanks for making me look forward to those. I need to look out for any local pound shops actually, they could have some interesting things in there…

lol sorry. maybe it was just a bad lot.
yes pound shops often have slightly different varieties of bars we have here don’t they? or chocolate you have never heard of and then never hear of ever again after you buy them. where do these companies disappear to? i can’t understand it!

Actually, for me the problem is entirely different – the flavour is just not there. I only eat dark chocolate (at least 70%) and this one is disappointing, lacks in flavour, reminding me of soap; the texture is too creamy as well.
