Nestlé Caramel Aero

I reviewed the Australian version of this bar back in early May, and in my first sentence mentioned that I was sure we had these in the UK, turns out we do.
Looking back on what I said then…the chocolate sucked, but the caramel was good…hmm, well unfortunately things are a little different here.
This bar is shaped differently to the other Aero bars, most likely because if you were to break one of those open with caramel inside, it’d run out all over the place. I mean heck, even in this bar form it nearly does it…
I mean with all the caramel bars around, you’d think all the companies would have perfected it by now, but it seems either Nestle haven’t, or have gone for something different. Either way in my opinion it hasn’t worked too well.
The caramel tastes different to traditional caramel, there seems to be more flavour there, as if they’ve tried to put emphasis on that rather than the chocolate and like the Australian version, it dominates the taste.
To sum up, I recommend to stay away from this. If you want an Aero, try the Peppermint or normal ones. If you want caramel, then well…you’re spoiled for choice, there’s a ton of caramel chocolates out there. This bar has 210 calories, and the other values are per 100g, and it doesn’t give the weight so…not very helpful of Nestlé there.

if you want caramel, cadbury is best in my humble opinion! cos it’s not too runny.

Green and Blacks makes the best caramel! Salty and just a touch of alcohol. Best ever.

ellie – True enough, but sadly part of this job means having to review things like this, so I can officially say that the Aero Caramel sucks ass.
Leigh – Do Green and Blacks still make that version? I thought that and the Espresso bar had been discontinued, I haven’t seen them in ages and they’re not listed on their site at all (the online store at least, which features their full bar range). I heard it was awesome as well, I have seen it online but I’m not paying like £2.50 for a bar.

There was some on my uni campus shop, but it could still have been discontinued. They still sell Green & Blacks old-style ginger bar in the shiny wrapper, so i dont hold much hope for freshness. God I hope they bring it back, I’ve put it on my birthday list.

I have that Ginger bar in the shiny wrapper, is it old now? I didn’t know they’d changed it…
As for putting chocolate on a birthday list, not even I had thought of that! Something to keep in mind though.

Terry do you just have a giant box full to the top of chocolate in your room? Do your friends bother you all the time looking for munchies?

Ellie, I finally got my webcam working again, so I can show you the set up! I used to have a huge box full, but now what I have is a Notepad file with about 2 months worth of reviews to be checked and re-written, and that’s what the majority of my reviews are at the moment. Then I have a drawer full of chocolate, as well as a mini fridge full. Here are a couple of pictures:

Sorry for the terrible quality! First pic is the drawer with a random assortment (see if you recognise anything!), second pic is the fridge full of block chocolate – Green & Black’s, Lindt, Cote d’Or, etc.
As soon as my loan comes through I’m getting a proper webcam and starting video reviews. I cannot wait!

awesome!!
whenever i try to start a chocolate drawer my mother accuses me of ‘food hoarding issues’.

Even if you buy the food yourself? That sounds odd…I don’t see the problem with keeping the food to yourself and putting it where you want if you bought it for yourself.
Also I forgot to mention, my friends don’t bother me for munchies. They don’t actually know about the website. Not that I keep it a secret but it’s not something I feel the need to brag about.

yeah even more so if i buy the food myself!! she’s says it’s too secretive. i say it’s bloody fantastic!
that’s funny that your friends don’t know – if they find out they’ll be mightily impressed! it’s weird how you can have a whole other persona on the internet isn’t it? off i go to my phil collins appreciation online message board. KIDDING, kidding.

Maybe you should be even more secretive and not let her find out then. I thought you went to University anyway, do you not live in dorms there? You’re missing out if you’re not.
I’m not sure if they’ll be mightily impressed, though it’d probably explain a few things to them. You can indeed have a whole different persona, though I’m the same person here as I am in real life. As for the Phil Collins board, you let that one slip, I believe you though… >.>

Yep the ginger bars are just 100g now and look very much like the other G & B bars. They taste exactly the same though.
Impressed by the chocolate collection, but I’m a firm believer that all chocolate should be frozen! Maybe thats just me..?
October 12th, 2007 at 12:43 am
Haha just checked and uhh…yeah, that is the one I have. I’m an idiot, though I do remember them! I think the Cherry ones also used to be in a similar shiny wrapper.
It’s not just you, I know a lot of Americans that freeze their chocolate, personally I’ve never eaten it like that. I would do it but frankly I don’t trust my flatmates enough to keep their paws off. Too many nights they’ve come in very drunk and raided the kitchen, and a few bars of Lindt in there I’m sure would go down their necks very nicely. So I’ll stick with the fridge.

Just to clarify that situation – University dorm, 6 students, one kitchen, one fridge-freezer, no lock on anything.
October 12th, 2007 at 4:54 pm
you should get some a chain to stick around the mini fridge and a padlock!
October 12th, 2007 at 9:07 pm
Haha nah I don’t need to do that, it’s safely in my room which I can lock.
October 12th, 2007 at 9:44 pm
Luckily i’m the only girl in a house of lads, so naturally they are scared of me and they know not to touch my freezer shelf.
They do NOW anyway…

lol – god forbid a man should get between a girl and her chocolate >:\
