Cadbury’s Dairy Milk Giant Buttons

It would have made sense to review the normal Cadbury Buttons before the Giant Buttons, in order to get a sense of how ‘giant’ these are, but there’s no ordinary Dairy Milk Buttons around any of my local shops, so I have to make do with these.

Cadbury Buttons are small, thin button shaped milk chocolates. They are about the same size, width and diameter of an ordinary button you’d find on a shirt, hence the name. These though…are GIANT Buttons, oh yes…giant. About double the size of ordinary Buttons going by my memory, is that giant? Not in my opinion, but there are things much worse than that with these.

Buttons are, as far as I’m concerned, marketed towards children. I know my youngest brother is incredibly fond of these, and as far as chocolate goes, these are his favourites. I very rarely see adults buying them unless they’re for their children (or so they say), though I’m not particularly sure why.

I think it may be because they’re small, melt easily in the mouth and aren’t hard on the teeth, plus they come in such small packs that it’s good for parents who want their children to have a dessert of sorts, but not overdoing it, which can surely only be a good thing.

These though, aren’t quite the same. These are bigger, they’re ‘giant’ Buttons, and I’m not so sure they’re aimed at children.

There’s one thing that really annoys me about these though, and that’s that the nutritional information is PER BUTTON, what a load of rubbish. They also have it per 100g, but don’t say what the weight of the bag is, now that really brings my piss to a boil. I don’t understand why they did that, just tell us what the facts are per pack, does anyone really count out how many Buttons they have to fit into their daily food intake? What a joke.

Anyway, that aside, these aren’t too bad. You know what you’ll get with Cadbury, especially when it says ‘Dairy Milk’ on the pack. Yeah I’m sure you guessed it, these taste exactly like a Dairy Milk bar, only in Button form. What more can I say? Congratulations to Cadbury I guess for rebranding their chocolate once again (see my Freddo article on Chocablog) and managing to sell it.

Oh, you want the nutritional information? Well remember, this is per button, and I sure as hell can’t remember how many buttons were in the pack. Each one has 15 calories, 0.2g Protein, 1.7g Carbohydrates (1.6g of which sugars) and 0.9g Fat (0.5g of which saturates). Well, I’ve only eaten 2440 calories today, so thanks to Cadbury for telling me the calories per button, I’m off to eat 4 of these to top up to 2500!

as far as i can tell, each packet seems to have 20. so that’s 300 calories, one of the higher amounts for chocolate bars. i am addicted to these and the original ones too – i’ve been waiting for a review. they are such a good size that i can’t only eat four, so it’s calories ahoy for me! in fact there’s another chocolate coincidence – i hadn’t bought any for two weeks and then bought some just now only to find them on here too! *twilight theme*

Thanks for the info there, ellie. I don’t know how you can like these though, it’s just generic Cadbury’s chocolate in button form, personally I was disappointed and annoyed by them. But still, spooky coincidence…again, I wasn’t even meant to put this review up until sometime next week but moved it ahead in the schedule.

but it’s just like easter egg chocolate! that’s the best kind i think :) i think cadburys dairymilk chocolate is nicer in thinner forms which is why i love buttons.

That was a quick response! Easter egg chocolate sucks though, still you’re entitled to your opinion even if it’s WRONG! And I’m not saying the Dairy Milk chocolate is bad, I just don’t like how lazy Cadbury are by slapping the tag ‘Dairy Milk’ on everything they sell, it just irks me a bit.

the reason for the quick responses is because i should be studying but keep ‘checking’ youtube! yes it is lazy of cadbury. but cadbury easter egg chocolate IS good dammit!

Studying? Why should you be studying in the middle of September? Some school you go to…and what are you checking on Youtube? I didn’t catch on that you meant Cadbury’s Easter Egg chocolate, that’s more than likely regular Dairy Milk stuff as well. I always end up with Nestle stuff (or a Thorntons one like this year, which I reviewed) and it tastes like ass.

Perhaps Ellie has the misfortune to be a Masters or Phd students – we don’t get holidays just a set deadline. In which case I can definitely un derstand the chocolate button thing – they are good to eat while you study! Also good to eat while marking accounting mid-terms as well, must get some myself!

oh look i’m back again! anabel is right, i am in college – random tests fun for all :p what am i checking on youtube? anything of even the most vague interest to me. yes i don’t like nestle easter egg chocolate. it does, indeed, taste like ass.

nestle easter egg makes my throat burn! and dairy milk in button form always feels cooler on the tongue than normal………

  10. ellie

yeah that’s true about buttons feeling cooler! lol. i guess it’s cos they are small, there’s less there to melt. if that makes sense.

Alice, it’s the presence of a horrible chemical called vanillin in the nestle eggs that makes your throat burn. This is a completely artificial flavouring created to replicate the fantastically lovely vanilla which is so amazing but is also the second most expensive food commodity in the world (after saffron). Hence companies like Nestle and Cadbury use cheap vanillin to replace the vanilla but it is well known that this leaves a slight burning sensation in the throat. Honestly, now you know, you’ll never be able to eat cheap chocolate again without feeling like you need go cough!
