Nabisco Oreos
From the same company who make the Nutter Butter biscuits I reviewed, come one of the most famous American snacks - Oreos. “The world’s number 1 biscuit!” they proudly proclaim, it’s a shame they don’t make them a bit more wildly available then, which is a bit of a surprise considering Nabisco do operate in the UK (they’re the guys who make Ritz).
The side of the pack shows a method of eating Oreos which I hear makes them better - Twisting the pieces apart, licking the cream, and then dunking the two discs into milk. I don’t have any milk nearby so I’ve got to make do with just eating them plain.
I can see why they’d recommend the milk, because they’re as dry as a bone. The cream doesn’t really help offset the dryness of the biscuits much at all, and so I had to have a glass of water handy anyway.
I’m gonna be controversial and say that these things are overrated. They’re nice, sure, but I’ve had nicer biscuits that weren’t as expensive. Maybe if Nabisco made a factory over here and were able to have lower prices I’d change my tune, but currently they don’t really seem worth the effort.
The chocolate isn’t that great, neither is the cream, and they all got stuck in my teeth. These aren’t that bad, but I’ve had much better things from America alone, let alone from England and other countries.

the only american candy/ chocolate/ biscuits that i have ever liked is Hershey’s chocolate and cookies bar or the cookies and cream bar. other than that, everything has so much sugar that it tastes like oil. car oil. have you ever noticed that hershey’s kisses taste like a fart smells?

Definitely agreed about the Americans overdoing it with sugar. As for Hershey’s taste…I always likened it to vomit, though I suppose farts aren’t that far off, it’s not a very ladylike thing of you to say.

babycakes - All the more reason to stay away now, eh? McVities and Fox’s are much better.
ellie - Yeah I’ll let you off, they really do suck.

I wasn’t too impressed with Oreo’s either.
Maybe because us Brits have been brought up on fantastic biscuits like HobNobs, chocolate digestives, ginger nuts… I could go on.

That’s it exactly! As a tea loving nation we’ve been spoiled with great biscuits, and these things pale in comparison to the vast majority of them (except rich tea biscuits, those suck).

As an American reader of this blog, I thought that it might be a good idea to speak up in defense of the Oreo!
In my case at least, Oreos are something of a tradition within my house. My father would eat stacks of them with milk, and if around the end of October when they came out with orange cream colored Oreos for Halloween- we had at least 2 bags of them on and until they were gone (when I was little I swore I could taste a difference between the orange and the traditional white).
Oreos in the States are an ice cream topping (very tasty), used as a crust in some creamy pies (Oreo pie, anyone?), and probably a million other things that I haven’t tried.
So, please be kind to the Oreo! We aren’t as lucky as you Brits to have such such wonderful biscuits
Oh, and you MUST eat Oreos with milk for the maximum effect. Don’t bother with the silly directions on the back of the package. They are best eaten dipped in milk until just barely soft, that gives a good crunch without the dryness.
I love your blog, and keep up the good work!

After Reading Your Review About The Oreo Biscuit You Said “it’s a shame they don’t make them a bit more wildly available then, which is a bit of a surprise considering Nabisco do operate in the UK (they’re the guys who make Ritz)”. I Once Got A Tub Of MINI Oreo’s For About 90P I Think From Tesco Extra Im Not Saying That They Would Still Sell Them I Got Them Ages Ago But Have A Try In Tesco Extra (Not Sure About Standard Tesco’s Or The Express (Metro) Tesco’s

Oreos, like every other over-sweetened American product, taste nauseating. I’ve heard of a sweet-tooth but this is ridiculous. I guess this caters to the American population (the fat and stupid). NOT even close to be the world’s favorite. America should realize that a world outside the U.S. does exist, and with sensible people as opposed to apes tasting the food, we know what tastes good. Oreos = crap.
