Chocolate Trading Co. Superior Selection, Bouchon
The good people at the Chocolate Trading Company recently sent me a small box full of little goodies for me to sample and review here, and this is the first one I decided to go with, Bordeaux wine infused chocolate truffles.
I’m not a fan of wine, be it red or white. Being a male student I’m more of a beer and cider person, but I am a fan of chocolate, and I was a fan of the Chocolate Trading Co’s milk chocolate tablet, so I’m sure that these will be good.
The pack they come in is extremely nice, there’s a description of the truffles on the front as well, to summarise the truffles are designed on wine corks, and made with a dark chocolate shell, and filled with a wine infused chocolate ganache centre. There are 8 truffles in the pack, and the only downside thus far is that they don’t tell us how much wine is actually in the truffles.
The truffles are wrapped in a cork style foil wrapper, in as much as they actually look like corks until you realise…they’re not. The truffles inside are completely encased in dark chocolate, which is thin around the sides but quite thick at the top and bottom. The inside is a very soft truffle, and the taste is all wine.
The flavour of the wine seems to differ a lot between truffles, in some it was extremely strong, and in others it had hardly any taste at all. Even the strong ones are very nice though, the dark chocolate mixing very well with the wine, and they’re not actually too rich either, which was a potential worry with two normally rich flavours.
To give an idea of how strong these are, my tongue and throat actually burned and tingled slightly with some of the stronger ones, much in the same way as when I drink wine, which shows just how much alcohol is actually in these. My mouth also tasted of wine after finishing them, as opposed to tasting of chocolate.
So do I recommend these? Yeah I do, as I said I’m not a wine fan but still enjoyed these a lot, the dark chocolate was relatively plain on its own, but when eaten with the ganache it’s extremely good. So I may be drunk now from these and my opinion may be skewed, but I do recommend them, doubly so if you’re a wine drinker.

It is, it is. It’s on their website…here:

Quite honestly at £4.99 then with the gift of hindsight I wouldn’t have paid that for them, so perhaps wait and see if they go on offer at some point.
