Mars Flyte

“Taste the chocolate skip some fat!” Not even a comma in there, which is pretty shoddy and which is also a sign of things to come, sadly.

This bar is Mars’ competitor to the Milky Way. It’s a whipped centre covered in milk chocolate. Sounds…exactly like a Milky Way then…except wait! The whipped centre is ‘chocolatey’, mmm…not quite chocolate then, just chocolateY…yet another sign of things to come.

It’s nowhere near as good as the Milky Way bar. The chocolatey centre tastes exactly as they say…chocolatey. Not very chocolate like, but the sort of fake tasting, slightly off taste that you know it’s going to be like, yet are wishing it won’t be because you spent money on the damn thing (Grumble, grumble…)! Unfortunately that dominates the bar, and it just sort of tastes…bad.

Yeah, there’s not much more I can say really. It’s Mars’ take on a Milky Way and they’ve done it badly, very badly…It doesn’t taste nice, and you shouldn’t get it. Oh yeah and the “Skip some fat” line? It’s a bit of marketing lingo there, as you don’t skip much fat at all…

Each stick (there are two of them in the pack, damn Milky Way clone) has 99 calories, 0.8g of Protein, 16.8g of Carbohydrates and 3.2g of Fat. So yeah, you skip some fat and calories, but you get hit by the Carbs. So it’s not all good, plus the chocolate actually sucks. Personally I’d take an extra 60-100 calories and get something really good rather than this.

    This sounds like a Mars product we’ve had in the States for years called 3 Musketeers. It’s just the nougat. I’m not that fond of it, mostly because it doesn’t taste like anything (certainly not like nougat!). I agree that they hype of less fat falls flat when it’s not satisfying.

    The Mars family of bars kind of builds on each other:

    Nougat = 3 Musketeers
    Nougat + Caramel = Milky Way
    Nougat + Caramel + Peanuts = Snickers
    Nougat + Caramel + Almonds = Snickers Almond (used to be called Mars)

    We also used to have a Caramel bar called Marathon which is nearly identical to the Curly Wurly.

    Interesting stuff there Cybele, thanks!

    Also I need to note that our Milky Way is in fact also made by Mars, as I referred to this as Mars’ attempt at a Milky Way thinking it was made by Nestle or someone.

    Very odd that they’re both made by the same company and yet have such differing tastes though.

    I agree. I still don’t understand why Mars has so many of the same products. Basically the whole range is the same product with slightly different ingredients.
